It seems we are always playing parts in our lives. We are the good student, the best friend, the smart kid, the athlete, the dancer, singer, the nerd, the musician, etc. We are always altering ourselves to fit with what we are told are the right feelings, the right look and the right behavior. I think the A number one thing that our acting school does for you is allow you to be you. Kids always feel judged and are trying to fit in with the latest trend and be popular. It can be so exhausting to try and be accepted by your peers and this can double at auditions. As an acting teacher, I’m trying to strip away these judgements and help you to get out of your own way of controlling how you come across. You are enough. You are interesting. You are the part. As an actor you achieve greatness, by NOT trying to achieve. This is a really brain tease I know. But imagine watching an animal at the zoo. It’s so interesting to watch because it’s not trying to alter itself but just is. I know that as kids you are always being judged and tested to be the best. As an actor you are the best when you are just being you. You’re reactions, mannerisms, style, personal ticks even, can all be amazing in an acting scene. Kids may dislike parts of themselves which causes them to alter how the scene should go or worse yet, simply freeze up. At my acting studio, our faculty slowly change your dislikes to wonderful interesting acting. Acting classes celebrates the uniqueness of different lives and brings them together to form a universal truth, which is the play or the film.
